Bagni Di LuccaThe village of Bagni di Lucca The region around Bagni di Lucca is called Media Valle - Garfagnana and has a multitude of lovely spots and historical towns like Barga, Castelnuovo, Coreglia degli Antelminelli etc... all at an altitude of 500m (1500 feet). This region has attracted many illustrious British visitors in the past two centuries Byron and Shelley, for instance, visited Bagni di Lucca many times. The thermal baths of Bagni di Lucca have been known for many centuries. Montaigne, the French writer, cured his illness in Bagni di Lucca and wrote about it in his memories. In the first half of the 19th century Bagni di Lucca became a fashionable resort of the court of the grand duke of Tuscany. The first roulette in the world was conceived and installed in the Casino of Bagni di Lucca. Although Bagni di Lucca is a small village, its 19th century dwellings confer to the town the looks of an important centre, as for instance the Anglican church, the Protestant Cemetery, the municipal Casino, the Ducal (later Grand Ducal) Palace and Stables, the Demidoff hospital, the Circolo dei Forestieri, Villa dei Fiori, Villa Ada and the Bagno alla Villa.
Another singularity of Bagni di Lucca is its being composed of two separate villages, called "Ponte a Serraglio" and "La Villa". Along both of them flows a lovely mountain river called the Lima, which offers opportunities for fishing and canoeing. There is a large Municipal swimming pool using the thermal water, with a separate diving pool and a smaller pool for children. Excellent tennis courts are also available. There are good opportunities for Trekking and mountain bike riding on trails and paths which afford some lovely views of the valley. Parachute jumping from the peaks of the Apennines is also available in the vicinity of Bagni di Lucca.
During winter, you can enjoy the skying resorts of the Abetone
The house Riverside Villa is composed of 3 houses attached to each other, and facing a large garden bordering the river Lima. The 2 houses on the right (in the picture) have been united into a larger house, that is not offered for rental for the moment. The Annexe is the (independent) house to the left. You will have access to the common garden and the river.
Just next door are the Mirafiume Tennis courts. The municipal swimming pool is within walking distance. A good supermarket can be reached in two minutes walking. The village of "La Villa" has several good restaurants and stores.
The Annexe has 2 stories, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (1 with a bath, 1 with a shower, 1 with only WC and sink), a kitchen, a dining room and a large sitting room with a fireplace. The annexe has direct acess to the garden. Accommodation is for 5 people (one single room, two double). Bed sheets, blankets and towels are provided.

AlberobelloTrullo Patrizia, Additional Services, Puglia and Getting There Trullo Patrizia is a 300 year old trullo - a romantic Southern Italian stone farmhouse - renovation was completed and a fantastic pool (12M x 6M) installed in December 2005.
Unlike many other recently renovated properties, Patrizia has not been extended with modern extensions and is completely original. We have furnished Patrizia with traditional local furniture and avoided spoiling the atmosphere with a modern chic look!
The trullo is set in its own private 5 acres of olive, walnut, fig and cherry trees, on top of a hill, in a beautiful, unspoilt rural location near Alberobello, Puglia. It has two double bedrooms with ensuite shower rooms, and one bedroom with double sofa-bed and ensuite toilet/basin (a cot is available on request).
The pool is open from mid-May to September - and longer if weather permits. How to Get There Ryanair: Flying Monday, Wednesday and Friday from London Stansted airport to Bari takes around 2.5 hours.
Alitalia: Flying daily to Bari and Brindisi from Heathrow, via Rome or Milan - often cheaper than Ryanair! (Also Brindisi on Thursday and Sunday)
British Airways: Flying twice a week Spring to Autumn, direct to Bari from Gatwick, Thursday and Saturday only.
Both Bari and Brindisi are small provincial airports so collecting your luggage and car is quick and easy.
Our Italian property managers, Donatella and Antonio, are also good friends. They are both fluent in several languages, have a long experience in tourism, and Donatella is a great cook. Besides locally assisting our clients, they can also provide some extra services, like:
1) Cookery lessons (with two weeks advanced booking) 2) A range of produce such as organic extra-virgin olive oil, home-made cheese, fresh pastas, breads, marmalades, local sweets and various preserves!
So what is a trullo? A trullo (plural trulli) is an ancient stone building, peculiar to Puglia and particularly the area surrounding the town of Alberobello. They are dry-stone laid, using local limestone with conical roofs, and are reputed to have been created by local farmers to avoid tax in that they could easily be pulled down on a visit from the tax inspector. However, when you see a trullo you would see why this is an unlikely story - the walls can be six feet thick! The family would typically live in the main trullo, with a fire place/oven and storage on a wooden floor overhead in the cone. Animals or produce would be kept in adjoining trulli or a stone lamia (extension).
No two are the same, as although they were built to a similar design, with one or more cones formed over a double wall of stone, they are built across the undulating countryside according to the local conditions and requirements. Some are whitewashed and some have mystical signs painted on the roofs. Trulli are very cool in the Summer due to the thick stone construction
Puglia is the "heel" of Italy, the South-East peninsula reaching out into the Adriatic and Ionian seas. The area is very rural and traditional, and is regarded as the "garden of Italy". Most of the countrys wine and much of the worlds olive oil is produced here, along with oranges, lemons, cherries, and countless other fruit, nuts, vegetables, wheat and a whole range of other agricultural produce. And one should not fail to mention the rich variety of seafood available in local markets and restaurants.
The world famous Italian cuisine (as captured recently in the series by Jamie Oliver) is available in abundance and surprisingly cheaply, thanks to the wealth of produce. It also helps that the holidaymakers from Western Europe have not yet arrived, with prices to suit!
The locals are very laid-back and friendly. In combination with hot summer sun, over 500 miles of unspoilt sandy beaches and coastline, and a generous sprinkling of mediaeval towns, villages, churches and castles, this makes for a very popular holiday destination, especially with the Italians.
Holidaying here is only just catching on with the British, due to the introduction in the last 18 months of direct daily flights by Ryanair to the regional airports of Bari and Brindisi, and twice weekly flights by British Airways to Bari.
There are numerous sites of cultural and archaeological interest, which reflects in the styles and designs of the villages, towns and cities of the region.
History and Places to Visit History
The Romans, Goths, Lombards, Byzantines, Saracens, Normans, the Crusaders, French, Greeks and Spanish have all had ownership of Puglia at some point in time, and left a mark on the region. The whitewashed buildings and towns, with narrow alleys and flights of steps that are more reminiscent of those in Greece There are magnificent cathedrals, castles (the octagonal 11th Century Castel Del Monte of Frederick II, Baris 13th Century Swabian Castle) and cities with Baroque influences. The Roman amphitheatre in Lecce of 1st Centrury BC is one of the oldest remaining.
Places to Visit
Alberobello - the focal point for the trulli! Alberobello boasts the greatest number of trulli in one place, with around 1,500 nestling in the cobbled streets around the gentle hills on which the town is built. Trulli are protected by the World Heritage Organisation. Those in Alberobello have been lived in for several hundred years up to today. There are many shops, restaurants, a church and even hotels to be found in trulli in the town.
Brindisi - a bustling modern port, home to the 15th Century Aragones Castle and some medieval and Baroque churches. Daily ferries to Greece, Turkey and Albania.
Castellana Grotto - the largest cave complex in Italy, with dazzling white walls of pure crystals.
Ceglie Mesapica - an ancient Messapian centre lies in the old town.
Cisternino - with a pretty old town, typical of the area.
Gallipoli - (from the Greek kalli poli, meaning beautiful city) with a Byzantine castle, a Baroque cathedral and an ancient Greek fountain.
Lecce - the "Florence of the South", described as the most beautiful city in Italy, in a Baroque style with golden stone building in quiet winding streets.
Locorotondo - arranged in a circular style, with narrow winding streets, trulli and a Gothic church
Martina Franca - another Baroque city with an interesting old town centre
Ostuni - the "white city", with whitewashed buildings set on top of three hills overlooking the Adriatic. Many bars, restaurants and shops.
Otranto - South of Lecce, with an award winning beach, lots of restaurants and shops.
Polignano - a beautiful seaside town, north of Monopoli
Taranto - standing on a central island between two canals, with narrow winding streets, Roman ruins, an Aragonese castle, 11th Century Baroque cathedral and Doric column from the Greek temple of Poseidon.

Lake GardaBeautifully restored apartment in 16th century Palazzo with lake views We are delighted to a offer you private, self-catering accommodation in our Italian holiday home, a beautifully restored 2 bedroom apartment in this unique historical building.
Though perfect for a relaxing break at any time of year, Il Palazzo literally blooms during the summer months, when the rose bushes of its landscaped gardens are in full flower, the sun is high and breeze is up, and the views across this beautiful lake will take your breath away.
The building and grounds, including the swimming pool, are run by a local, professionally qualified administrator. The apartment you see here is managed by Garda Homes, a British/Italian company, who oversee all aspects of bookings, changeovers and laundry, so you can be assured of the highest standards while still enjoying the privacy and genuinity of a booking direct from the owner.
One of the little-known benefits of Il Palazzo is its location. Set in the hills above Salo', it faces south, or very slightly south-east, meaning it enjoys the rays of the sun from morning until sun-down, with a pleasant breeze in the afternoons. On the hottest days, when temperatures can reach the low forties in the towns down around the lake, the gardens and pool at Il Palazzo enjoy a light breeze and temperatures a few degrees lower than at the lakeside. At night, the apartment is lovely and cool and air-conditioning is simply not needed. Winters are incredibly mild, and while frost can be found at the bottom of the hill on the coldest mornings, up at Il Palazzo the sun warms the hillside. Last winter, we enjoyed almost three months of bright sunshine every day, with a bit of rain in November and April, and a dusting of snow in December.
It is surrounded by beautiful countryside, with vineyards just below the Palazzo and olive trees in abundance, yet the lake, with its charming street cafe life, designer shops and restaurants, is a short 5 minute drive away, Gardaland and other theme parks are 30 minutes away, the opera house at the Arena di Verona is 40 minutes away, and the designer stores of Milan are just 1 1/4 hours away by train or 1 1/2 hours by car.
The apartment was restored in 2003 and has been stylishly furnished... The apartment at Il Palazzo offers a true home from home, with every facility for a comfortable stay.
The entrance leads down some steps into a large living room, with vaulted ceilings and original beams dating back to the 16th century, and a large corner sofa seating six people comfortably. This sofa also opens out to become a double bed. There is a large colour television with DVD player and surround sound, plus UK satellite television, and a reading area with view over the lake with armchair and a collection of books and DVDs, The dining area, towards the back of the living room, provides seating for six people and a large dining table, complete with chandelier and candlesticks. The kitchen leads off the living area, and though small, it is truly state-of-the-art, with a modern, stylish Italian design, and fully fitted with dishwasher, microwave, fan oven, hob, fridge and small freezer, and plenty of cupboard space.
Also leading off the living room from the reading area is a laundry room, with a washing machine and clothes drier.
Three small balconies lead off from the living area, providing spectacular views of the swimming pool and lake. The corridor leading down to the bedrooms also leads off to the bathroom, which has its own balcony with lake view. The "bathroom" is actually a large shower-room, with wall-mounted washbasin and toilet, and a huge walk-in "rain" shower, tiled with marble mosaic.
The main bedroom at the end of the corridor also has its own balcony with lake view, and a lovely double bed with brass bedstead, crisp white bed-linen and a romantic mosquito net (which is really for show as we've never been bothered by mosquitoes at Il Palazzo!).
The second bedroom also has a double bed and wardrobe. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans. Air-conditioning is not needed.

Lake GardaWhat makes Residence Bellavista so special Residence Bellevista is a new exclusive development completed in the summer of 2009.
It is located in the foothills above the ancient Roman town of Salo on the western shore of Lake Garda - considered by many to be the prettiest and most Cosmopolitan area of the the lake.
The first time we visited Lake Garda, the largest and most strikingly beautiful of all the Italian lakes, we fell in love with the area and visited many times to seek out a property for our own use and also for our guests to enjoy.
We looked at almost 100 properties before we found this one, which surpassed everything else we had seen.
Our apartment is literally yards away from a fabulous and inexpensive restaurant with panoramic lake views that is extremely popular with the local Italian community. The menu is very wide and quality of food superb.
Our Apartment The exclusive residence Bellevista consists of 14 apartments. There are seven ground floor studio apartments and seven 1st and 2nd floor duplex apartments.
As we were one of the first buyers within the complex, we were fortunate to secure one of the best duplex apartments overlooking the communal swimming pool with a fabulous lake view from the large terrace.
The first floor of the apartment includes open plan modern quality, fully equipped kitchen, open plan living area and dining area. We have a double bedroom downstairs and large shower room. The furnishings are of a high quality. We have a leather sofa and matching double leather sofa bed in the living area - in addition we have available 2 folding camp beds ideal if there are more than 4 people wishing to share or parents wish to have young children in their room.
The living room opens out on to a covered terrace, with dining furniture for 6 people and indoor dining - also for 6 people. The terrace also has some relaxation seating.
Upstairs we have a further double bedroom, separate ensuite bathroom with bath and shower, wc and bidet and a large storage room.
A fabulous picture window looks out from the bedroom to the lake. We have a table and chairs beside the window to sit, chill out, and enjoy the view.
For your entertainment we provide satellite TVs and DVD players.
Essential Information Although there is a restaurant within a stones throw of the apartment, the nearest shops and grocery stores are a short drive away, so you definitely need to bring a car with you or hire one. We can give you tips on the best car hire deals.
We provide bathroom towels and bed linen, but youll need to bring swimming pool towels with you.
The apartment could sleep up to 8, but we prefer to limit the number of guests at any one time to 6.
Sal is a truly beautiful, typically picturesque Lake Garda lakeside town, with long promenade, stylish boutiques and enough restaurants to ensure you will never get bored of dining out and watching the glittering lights reflecting on the lake.

ArezzoThe local area Located at one end of a small hamlet in the hills above the Upper Tiber Valley, Villa Cresta is the ideal spot for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in the Tuscany countryside. From here you can explore eastern Tuscany and neighbouring Umbria by car or on foot. This part of eastern Tuscany is an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is a region of steep hills cloaked in beech, oak and sweet chestnut trees, mountain pastures, meadows and streams. The many well-marked footpaths make it a perfect location for walkers and the many historic towns and monasteries will easily satisfy those in search of culture, art and architecture. A few kilometres away is Caprese Michelangelo, birthplace of the artist Michelangelo Buonarroti, painter of the Sistine Chapel. The house in which he was born, the Casa del Podesta, is now the Museo Michelangelo. A few kilometres further on is Anghiari, a medieval walled town surrounded by fields of tobacco and famous as the site of the last great battle between the armies of Florence and Milan in 1440. Sansepolcro, the largest town in the area, is renowned as the birthplace of Piero della Francesca and the 14th century Palazzo Comunale houses some of his most famous works. It is also the setting for the Palio della Balestra - a crossbow tournament between Sansepolcro and Gubbio that has been held on the second Sunday of September since the Renaissance. The world-famous Flag-Wavers (sbandieratori) of Sansepolcro also put on a show at this time. Also nearby is the sanctuary of La Verna, built on a rocky outcrop and offering spectacular views of the mountain scenery. It was here that St Francis is said to have received the stigmata - the wounds of Christ - in 1224, and is now a monastic village and an important pilgrimage site. A little further afield, no more than an hours drive away, are the historic Umbrian towns of Perugia, Assisi and Gubbio. The ancient Tuscan city of Arezzo, home of one of the worlds greatest fresco cycles (by Piero della Francesca) is also within an hours drive, and just a little further on is the famous hilltop town of Cortona. Florence and Siena are within easy reach as day trips. Just to the north is the Casentino. A vast area of forest, green alpine meadows, streams, waterfalls and high breezy ridges with spectacular views. It is criss-crossed with well-marked trails that follow old mule tracks or paths between the famous monasteries of Camaldoli, La Verna and Badia Prataglia. The Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi was created recently to protect the extensive wildlife of the area. As well as red deer, fallow deer, mountain sheep and wild boar, the Appenine wolf is known to roam these parts. Birds such as eagle-owls, kites, goshawks and, it is said, golden eagles, can be seen circling over the valleys.
The apartment The apartment is a completely separate building situated about 30 metres from the main house. It contains a living area, bedroom and bathroom. Outside there is a patio, a small garden and a parking area. The entrance faces south and affords a beautiful view out over the fields towards Caprese Michelangelo and Monte Castello. The only building that can be seen is the 16th century church of San Casciano about a mile away. The apartment will sleep 2 people very comfortably but is large enough for 4. Large french windows lead out from the lounge on to the south-facing patio making a brightly lit living area. The lounge has a wood-burning stove set in the fireplace, a large sofa bed which opens out to a queen size double bed, a comfortable armchair (another is available on request), and a TV (no aerial) with a DVD player. We have a wide selection of DVDs from which you are welcome to borrow. There is a separate dining area with table and four chairs and a corner kitchen with full-sized cooker, microwave and fridge. There is a queen-size double bed in the bedroom (twin beds can be arranged, if required). There is room for a small single bed, suitable for a child, and a cot is also available. Outside the apartment there is a small patio, a south-facing garden with shady trees, and a parking area. There is a table and chairs for eating "al fresco" BarBque and sun loungers are available for those who just want to relax. The accommodation can be booked on a per week or per day basis, with no fixed start and end days, so you can take advantage of cheaper mid-week flights.

The Castello Devachan was built and designed by the engineer Pietro Agosti (from Sanremo) with the help of engineer Winter. The building developer was Costanzio Sappia. The architecture of the castle was in the liberty style. The Castello Devachan stands majestically on the hill of Berigo, a few minutes from the centre of Sanremo, set amongst other beautiful villas, between palm trees, orange trees, cacti, banana, and other tropical and Mediterranean plants.
The Castello Devachan was purchased in 1890 by the English Count Orazio Savile of Mexborough. The elder Lord Mexborough acquired the castle to live there with his young spouse Lady Ivy, despite his age of 75 years. The Count of Mexborough had become a Buddhist after having lived in India for thirty years, it was he who named the Castello Devachan. Before it was called Villa Silvia Mexborough, after his first wife.
On April 19, 1920, the First World War Allies leaders, working through the League of Nations, gathered at the Castello Devachan in San Remo, Italy to carve up Turkey. With the last dusk of the San Remo Conference, the conferees granted France the mandate for both Syria and Lebanon. The British received the mandate for Iraq, and also Palestine, under a provision creating a Jewish homeland.
The Allied prime ministers meeting at the Castello Devachan in San Remo discussed a number of territorial problems, including the general framework of the Turkish peace treaty. The Allies agreed to leave the Fiume question up to the governments of Italy and the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes. The delegates also considered ways of disposing of Class A mandates. Under the League of Nations system, Class A mandates were in the final stages of preparation for independence.
Area Description San Remo is the capital town of the Italian Riviera of Flowers.
The Italian region of Liguria begins where the French Riviera ends, sharing the same dazzling Mediterranean Sea.
It has been a popular holiday resort for Europes beautiful people for more than a century, and, as a result, property here doesnt come cheap.
Liguria is a narrow and mountainous coastal strip curving like a boomerang around the sea. The regions capital, Genoa, is in the centre with exclusive resorts, such as Portofino and the Cinque Terre, to the east. Western Liguria includes San Remo, an established destination for Italian buyers known as the City of Flowers after its main industry.
Location: Nice airport is 45 minutes from San Remo via a road that tunnels briskly through the mountains, while Genoa, served by Ryanair from Stansted, is 100 miles to the east. Monte Carlo is 30 minutes away Milan is three hours, and skiing in Piemonte is two hours away.
It is located very close to the French border and only about 20 minutes drive from Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Climate: the palm trees around San Remo point to the microclimate enjoyed by this coast. San Remo and Ospedaletti have an annual average of 280 days of sunshine.
The average temperatures is 22 degrees Celsius in summer, and 14 degrees Celsius in winter.
Inland, in the mountains, winters can be harsh.
The climate of San Remo has been widely appreciated since the 1800s, but its artistic heritage, permeated by that typically Ligurian shyness, which escapes from any focus of attention, is still largely unknown.
Places to visit: San Remo has an annual song festival and regular regattas and markets. The sea front is studded with small restaurants overlooking the marina. Local dishes include freshly caught fish and simple Italian fare, such as freshly prepared pizzas.
Restaurants nearby include G&G in the centre of town, Mare Blu, (just down the road from the Gucci, Prada and Guess stores) Ulisse (where you can enjoy a fantastic 9 course meal for Euro 30 per head), and Della Palme in the old harbour. Dont miss out on the fantastic selection of ice creams at the Living Garden by the sea.
A must to see is the Russian Orthodox Church, Villa Ormond, the open-air market every Tuesday and Saturday, and the famous San Remo Casino.
San Remo is the town of art, culture, and sports: fishing, diving, canoeing, wind surfing, and motorboating - together with golfing, riding, swimming, baseball, and fitness facilities.
San Remo is also called the Town of Flowers - its flowers are well-known all over the world - and this can be clearly seen in its luxuriant gardens, its colourful flowerbeds, and in the town parks where tropical plants flourish.
Our suggestion is to explore Sanremo in its most secret places, bit by bit, and do take your time. . .
